Using the library
How is the library organized? Non-fiction and reference materials are organized using the Dewey Decimal System and can be found on the high shelves against and near the wall. Fiction can be found on the shelves in the middle of the LMC. New books are put on display on the shelves in front of the computer rooms.
How is the library organized? Graphic novels and paperbacks are on the spinning book shelf. Magazines and newspapers are kept in the shelves behind the circulation desk. We carry subscriptions to Waterbury Republican/American, Hartford Courant and U. S. A. Today.
Checking Out Books Please bring your books to the Circulation Desk to be checked out by Mrs. Sampieri or Mrs. Di. Stasio. Most books can be checked out for two weeks.
Things to remember…. Never put books back on the shelves. Bring the books to the circulation desk so that Mrs. Sampieri or Mrs. Di. Stasio can check them in. Always return borrowed books on time so that other students can check them out. Never give a book to a friend to use it – if it is not returned, you will be responsible for the replacement cost.
Using the Computers You may use the computers as long as you have signed a User Agreement. Log on to the computer using your school username and password. Always save your work to your “H” drive so that it will be permanently saved.
Using the Computers You are responsible for everything that comes across your screen. Do not open anything that might be inappropriate or obscene, including content sent to you in an email! Computers are primarily for academic use; you may be asked to give up your computer at any time if you are doing something else.
Using the Computers Students do not have access to the color printer; however, if you do need to print schoolwork in color, you may email it to your teacher, Mrs. Sampieri or Mrs. Di. Stasio and they will print it for you. Don’t forget to log off before you walk away from a computer!
Accessing Books and Databases on the computer. You can access the WHS library catalog and all WHS databases through the library media center page of the Wolcott High School Website. You can also access the WHS library catalog using the “Destiny” icon, which is on all computers in the LMC.
