Meet Señora Vasquez I am From Costa Rica which is a very small country in Central America. This is my 14 th year teaching and I am starting my 3 th year teaching at Irvin. I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade, Prek 1, Prek 2 in my home country. I have substituted for the Third, Fourth, Second Grade in my home country too. Here I have taught First Grade Dual Language for two years. I am thrilled to be working with your student this year! I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Preschool Education with Emphasis in English as a Second Language. At the Ulatina In Costa Rica. I married the Second time three and a half years ago with my friend from my youth, I have a daughter she is 13 years old. I love baking, cooking and working in crafts. I love to spend time with my daughter and husband our little baby Spike our Guinea Pig. I know this school year will look very different and is a new experience for us all but I look forward to the journey with your student and working with you as a team to help make this school year a success!
Dual Language (Spanish) In this program the kids will learn Spanish in a Immersion Program where they have the opportunity to interact with the target language in a very natural way. In my class they will have the opportunity to learn new vocabulary and be able to use it in a daily base context. They will also learn from my country how different it can be from other Spanish speaking countries. In first grade and due to the nature of this year we will work really hard the speaking part (at the beginning they will be given the opportunity to listen to the instructions in English and then Spanish so they will be able to recognize with the time the instuction given without thinking in English) The kids review the alphabet in Spanish and the different sounds the letters have in this target language. We practice decoding of words in this language when they read in the class. We learn sightwords in Spanish and grammar rules in Spanish.

• Our school will be using Class Dojo to monitor student behavior starting this school year! Each week your child will begin with 50 points (10 points a day). I will assign these 50 points at the start of each week. These 10 points represent the 10 time periods we have in our daily schedule. • Students who do not show SOAR (Safety, Being Orderly, Always Doing My Best, Respecting Myself and Others) expectations can lose 1 point per time period. This is similar to a “letter” on their SOAR card from last school year. • Students who earn 45 or more points for the week will have met their goal that week. Meeting their behavior goal 7 out of the 9 weeks of the quarter earns them a ticket to the quarterly PBIS celebration! • You as a parent can receive instant notifications for both positive and “needs work” feedback for your student’s behavior. If you have a smart phone you can download the Class Dojo app, create an account and monitor from there. You can also sign up for text notifications. There is also a messaging platform so you can send your child’s teacher direct messages with any question • Most importantly this will be my most used form of communication for parents. • Soon you will be receiving an invitation email to join our class on Class Dojo. I will also be sending home directions on paper with your student. For more information on Class Dojo, click here: https: //www. classdojo. com/about/
