When is a Rehabilitative Transfer Appropriate? • Unless separation is mandatory always attempt to rehabilitate • Commanders must ensure adequate counseling and rehab measures are taken before initiating separation for: • Involuntary Sep for Parenthood • Personality Disorder • Physical or Mental Conditions • Unsat Performance • Minor Infractions • Pattern of Misconduct • Overweight AR 635 -200 para: 116 a CSM(R) Mark Gerecht Ask. Counseling Requirements • Before separation at least one formal counseling session is required • Must be evidence deficiencies continued after counseling • # and frequency of counselings is discretionary • Counseling will be comprehensive IAW with chapter 17 of AR 635 -200 • Must be recorded on a DA FROM 4856 AR 635 -200 para: 116 b CSM(R) Mark Gerecht Ask. Rehab Transfers Do not Apply in the Following Situations • Waving Rehab transfer can include the following situations: • 2 consecutive physical fitness test failures • Pregnancy while in entry level status • Highly disruptive or potentially suicidal behavior • Particularly in reception battalions • Active resistance to rehab efforts • Soldiers assigned to small installations or remote locations • Situations in which transfer would be detrimental to Soldier or Army AR 635 -200 para: 116 d CSM(R) Mark Gerecht Ask.
