He Started programming at the age of 13. u In 1973, he entered Harvard University. u He developed the programming language BASIC u He left Harvard at his junior year. He and his childhood friend Paul Allen started company “Microsoft” u
Microsoft’s goal was to make user friendly operating system that didn’t require knowledge of programming u Microsoft designed operating system for IBM computers. u IBM turned Microsoft's deal down. u They released their version of operating system called Windows. u
Success u Microsoft made billions of dollars over the years.
Problems u u Quick releases lead to untested software. One incident on the stage
LINUX was first designed for US Department of Defense. u It was designed to be stable and secure. u Later it was released for public for free. u LINUX was designed with cooperation of programmers from all over the world. u No viruses could damage the system. u
u Why are we still using windows?
Because LINUX is not very well known yet. u Software companies have made their programs compatible for windows systems. u
Donations Bill Gates has donated more than $27 Billion worldwide. u $750 million for immunization program to develop vaccines. u $2 Billion to improve learning opportunities. u
