�A close study of a text requires you to: �Examine and interact with all aspects of the text including: Context Themes Techniques This means you must consider everything about the text and not look at it one way.
� Your knowledge of the text should include �Knowledge of themes and values they imply �Deep understanding of structural features and their effects �An understanding of language features and their effects �Knowledge of context �The effect of distinctive features like the use of poetic techniques
� Answer an essay question � To examine the emotions and values of the text and to offer solutions to problems posed through the text �Can be imaginative response
� Analyze and interpret instead of re-telling � Discuss the intentions of the composer and the various effects on the responder � Identify techniques and integrate an analysis of their effect in your response
� Why are the requirements important: �Question will be derived form the syllabus module statements �Gives you scope of what you must study �Helps with making your notes �Hints!!!
� How the text operates as a whole-the patterns of the elements that are used within the text �Text type and genre-this means you must consider the structure of the text and how this reflects the text’s purpose and audience �What text type are we looking at?
� These include arguments/themes and values � Themes: The general subject of the text � Values: �Moral purpose that the text is teaching us �The worth that you see in the text: what do you learn from it/ do you have an appreciation at the end?
� An efferent reading is one where the techniques and their power in shaping meaning is considered Whereas: � Aesthetic is deriving meaning from the text by engaging with the language! � You should always aim for an efferent reading

� The video will be uploaded on Edmodo � You must watch the rest and understand it � A short quiz will be distributed tomorrow based on the video
Choose three techniques from the reading: • Define the term in your own words • Be ready to teach the class their meanings
You will each be assigned an assignment task in which you must: • Research the given topic • Prepare a presentation of no more than 5 slides on the topic and present this to the class-maximum 4 minutes • Print out a hard copy of your presentation • Send the finished product on the same day before 9: 00 PM. You must NOT copy and paste This is a class task requirement and action will be taken if it is incomplete or if a serious attempt is not made!
