Introduction The 2019 -20 Tennis Rules Clinic is comprised of two (2) sections: 1. Tennis Playing Rules 2. Regular and Post Season Regulations & Reminders At the end of the clinic you will need to successfully complete the FINAL EXAM to finish the clinic. After you have passed the FINAL EXAM you will be able to print a certification document for this clinic. Please keep a copy for yourself and give one to your Athletic Director. 2019 -20 CLINIC

Sports Information Each member school has a responsibility to educate its student-athletes, coaches, and other appropriate persons on State Association rules, regulations, and policies that could affect them. Further, each member school should monitor its compliance with such State Association information. Coaches are responsible for knowing the WIAA rules and assisting the AD with all eligibility issues. 2019 -20 CLINIC

Coaching • While players are on the court, no coaching is permissible by coaches, other adults or other players; only the recognized school coach (one person only) is allowed to coach players on the court • Coaching is permissible during the break between the 1 st and 2 nd sets (two minutes maximum) and the 2 nd and 3 rd sets (10 minutes maximum) and any official suspension of play 2019 -20 CLINIC

State Participation • 22. 2. 5: By entering participants in postseason competition, each member school certifies that, barring injury, illness or unforeseen events, the team or individuals representing the school will participate in every level of competition through the completion of the state championship event. • 22. 2. 6: Any withdrawal or intentional forfeiture shall be considered a violation of WIAA rules and regulations, and shall be subject to penalties as determined by the WIAA Executive Board. 2019 -20 CLINIC

Tennis Match Regulations • 41. 3. 1 A player may compete in a maximum of three (3) matches per day • 41. 5. 0 MATCH REGULATIONS - A school may not schedule more than sixteen (16) team contests for tennis. Every tennis contest must count as one (1) contest for the team and one (1) contest for the individual. • 41. 5. 1 For the purpose of sub-varsity tennis matches, players may play up to three (3) sets against different players from opposing teams. This will be considered as one (1) contest for the individual. • 41. 5. 2 An individual shall not play in more than twenty-three (23) contests on sixteen (16) team dates. A player can play one (1) singles match and one (1) doubles match on the same day during the regular season, and this will be considered as one (1) contest for the individual. 2019 -20 CLINIC

A one (1)-day invitational tennis tournament will count as one (1) contest for the team and one (1) contest individual tennis player provided the athlete does not play more than three (3) contests in one (1) day. B. A two (2)-day invitational tennis tournament will count as two (2) contests for team and two (2) contests for the individual tennis player, provided the athlete does not play more than six (6) contests in the two (2) days. C. Exception: An event scheduled over two (2) days in which only the consolation and championship semifinalists move on to the second day shall only count as a one (1) day contest for the teams entered and for the individual tennis players. 41. 5. 4 A team is limited to three (3) invitational tournaments per season. 2019 -20 CLINIC
