WHAT IS ANALOGUE AUDIO AND EXAMPLES Analogue audio is things like radio, vinyl records, cassette and video tapes. Analogue audio is recordings of sounds that replicate it almost exactly, as opposed to digital which only replicates sampled fragments of it. Digital might be clearer for the most part, but only through manipulation of what it has recorded. Analogue recordings are more genuine.
THE FIRST RECORDED WORDS Thomas Edison first created the phonograph on 12 th August 1877 and with it recorded its first words “Mary had a little lamb. ” Edison created the phonograph after trying to improve the telegraph transmitter, noticing the movement of the paper through the machine created a noise reminiscent of spoken words when played at a higher speed. He then experimented with a stylus on a tinfoil cylinder and spoke into the machine, creating the device’s first recorded words.
FAMOUS SPEECHES The Warriors – Cyrus Speech. Repeated words and phrases: “Miracle” “Can you dig it” “Turf” Analysis notes: Use of hand gestures He also gets assassinated at the end which seems to be something common when someone tries to do something peaceful… even though that is to unite gangs to overrun the police He tries to unite otherwise warring and conflicting gangs and shows that when together they don’t attack one another He also speaks in a powerful tone. His language is formal yet relative to street talk or gang speak of gangs in the 70’s. The speech became iconic in its cult following, often quoted and has become a popular scene in the film. I think it did, in the context of the film, resonate its message well as at the end of the film Cyrus’ gang unites together with the Warriors to apprehend the assassin of Cyrus and leaving an open ended ending for Cyrus’ message; that the gangs could work together.
FAMOUS SPEECHES Martin Luther King Jr. – I have a dream. Repeated words and phrases: “Freedom” “I have a dream” Analysis notes: He speaks for the call of a peaceful unity between all races to end racism and hope that the future will change for the better. The speech definitely had a very historical impact, not just on the nation of North America but it even reached the world over. Its message also had a great impact, paving the way for future civil rights movements and other peaceful acts.
