WHY THE MR. GOODFISH PROGRAM ? Of the total number of stocks assessed in 2015 (FAO. 2018): • 31. 1% are fished at a biologically unsustainable level • 59. 9% are fully fished • 7% are underfished Unsustainable fisheries – a threat to the future of the entire economic sector: from fishermen, fishmongers and chefs to consumers

WHAT IS MR. GOODFISH ? A European program that raises awareness of the importance of sustainable seafood consumption among the general public and professionals § An innovative approach: sensitizing seafood consumers when they are the most concerned – at the restaurant or at fishmonger’s § Involving the entire seafood value chain: engaging fishermen, seafood producers, wholesalers, restaurants, canteens, fishmongers and consumers and thus reducing human pressure on fish stocks. § A positive attitude: no banning but promoting sustainable alternatives to professionals and to the public at large

GOODFISH RECOMMENDATIONS TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE FISHERIES • Specific for each coastal area: Channel & North Sea, Brittany & Atlantic and Mediterranean • Involving all actors: scientists, fishermen, restaurant owners, fishmongers, wholesalers, consumer associations, etc… • Seasonal: the committees meet every 3 months Size : At the first sexual maturity Status of resources : ICES, IFREMER datas Season : Out of the reproduction period
