WHY SO SRAT? By Alyson Bergman
Thesis ◦ After conducting my interviews with these people and combining that with my prior knowledge and with the knowledge I have gained through being a student at Trasny, I can conclude that sororities have a lot of benefits if you are the certain type of person the sorority wants to help, and as result of that, this goes against the ideas and beliefs that they claim to have and what Transy says their Greek life does not have.
Troubles ◦ On Monday I decided to change my audience and redirect the way my paper was going. ◦ Changed from just saying the benefits to arguing why sororities are not necessary. ◦ I am almost finished revising it.
Audience ◦ My paper is directed at sorority members and non sorority members.
Informants ◦ Jamie Wilder – Freshman Tri Delta member Katriel Hey – Sophmore Tri Delta President Kayla Thurlow – Senior Indie
Alternative Point of View ◦ Sororities have lots of benefits for example Support and feeling loved Good GPA Relationships gained Community service Have people to be around
Central Points ◦ Needing to be around people Is just a popularity contest. ◦ The requirements for GPA and Community service is not genuine. ◦ You can make friends without being in a Sorority.
Conclusion ◦ The benefits of being in a Sorority can be obtained through other ways, and the morals and beliefs the organization claims to have is contradicted by its actions such as only choosing a certain type of person.
