Why “Religious” Change Doesn’t Work…

Reason #1 Religious activities fail to address the “root” idolatries that drive our sin.

Romans 1: 25 “They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. ”

Genesis 3: 6 “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. ”

Reason #2 When our acceptance is based on our performance, we worsen the “root” sins of pride and fear.

Reason #3 The insecurity of always wondering if we’ve done enough to be accepted causes resentment of God, not love for Him.

Matthew 22: 36 -37 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? ” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. ’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. ” 36

1 John 4: 19 “We love Him because He first loved us. ”

Jonah 2: 8 -9 “Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs. 9 But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed, I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD. ” 8

Romans 12: 1 “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God— this is your spiritual act of worship. ”
