Why have we chosen this book As you
Why have we chosen this book? As you know, this is your final term at Garden Suburb Junior School. We, as your teachers, understand that finishing Primary School can leave you feeling a whole range of emotions (even without a global pandemic)! Some of you might be feeling super excited to start Year 7. Some of you might be feeling very sad to be saying goodbye. You may feel anxious or excited, eager or reluctant to start a new chapter in your lives. However you are feeling, it is important to recognise that these feelings are perfectly NORMAL, NATURAL and above all else, TOTALLY OK!
The end of primary school and the start of secondary school is often referred to as your TRANSITION. This word just means changing from one state to anotherin this case, from primary to secondary school. We want this transition to be as smooth and easy as possible for you. Our stimulus, The Phantom Tollbooth, is great for supporting you as you think about your transition to secondary school because of its characters and themes.
Your Entry Pass: As you enter the lands beyond Expectations, in your RE/PSHE book, please complete the entry survey below. Be as honest as you can (nobody will see this unless you want them to!) For each question rate your feelings using the scale: 1 - Positive and confident 5 - Neutral, confident about some things, not sure about others 10 - Worried At the end of the topic, you will look back at your survey and you can see if any of your feelings have changed. Remember, if any of these feelings are becoming too much for you to handle, you can ALWAYS talk to your teacher or a trusted adult.

Themes in the book As Milo ventures through the lands beyond The Land of Expectations, he meets many weird and wonderful characters. Each character that Milo meets was designed to teach him something. This might be something he should or should not do or it might be a life lesson. Some characters set a good example and others teach him because they set a bad example.
Task 2: Look again at Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3 and Chapter 4. Choose a character to draw. What did they teach Milo? How does this relate to your transition to secondary school? Example: The Whether man encourages Milo to go beyond what people expect of him. Whether Man Land of Expectations When you start at secondary there will be new expectations. It’s a great time to set new expectations of yourself and go above and beyond what people expect of you. . .
