Why do men feel the need to dominate? It all stems from the definition

Why do men feel the need to dominate? It all stems from the definition of masculinity that we have created for society. A definition based on domination and power that controls ”weaker” people. (4/8) If a man does not fit this monolithic idea of masculinity, he is considered deviant, and is reprimanded for this by peers, the media, and society in general. (7/8) Femininity is pitted in opposition to the idea of masculinity, so any deviant behavior by a male, could be seen as an expression of femininity, leading to that individual being shunned from that monolithic viewpoint of their respective characteristic. (6/8) We learn how to perform gender from our own families, as they are a small unit that reflects the society that it is in. (8/8) This division, leads to the creation of gender roles. If you have a vagina, you are considered a woman, and therefor are subject to the ideas of how to be a woman. To be a woman in society, we are taught within our own families how to perform that specific gender. Chores might be divided depending on the gender of who is doing these tasks, reinforcing the gender roles that are already in place. (3/8) This idea of dividing society between two different groups, male and female, is a way for us to organize and categorize ourselves. From the moment we are born, we are placed into one of the two categories, each category, with its own ideas of how to perform that gender. (7/8) In order to change the ideas and the normative of how to perform gender that we have been taught, we must go back to the beginning. We must change the definitions of what masculinity and femininity are, not so much categorizing gender as a singular idea of how to perform it, but rather a more fluid definition of gender that combines both qualities of masculinity and femininity.
