Objectives The student will… Define fashion terminology Describe how personal values influence choices and goals
Fashion Terminology Protection – prevents harm to the body resulting from weather, environmental dangers, occupational hazards, and enemies. Adornment –enhances a person’s selfconcept, providing a psychological feeling of well-being through beauty. Culture – society’s set of social norms or values. Identification process of establishing or describing who someone is or what he/she does. Modesty – covering of the body according to the dress code of decency of a particular culture or society. Status – one’s position or rank compared to others.
Fashion Terminology Values – ideas, beliefs, and material items that are important to an individual. Attitudes – are a person’s feelings or reactions to people, things, or ideas that are formed from values. Conformity – obeying or agreeing with some given standard or authority. Individuality – self-expression. Need – something a person must have for existence or survival. Want – a person’s desire for something that gives one satisfaction.
