WHY BAPTISTS ARE NOT PROTESTANTS (MATTHEW 16: 18; 28: 20)
WHY BAPTISTS ARE NOT PROTESTANTS • The Protestant Reformation is usually dated from October 31, 1517, when Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenburg, Germany. Source: REFORMATION http: //www. newadvent. org/cathen/10521 a. htm
WHY BAPTISTS ARE NOT PROTESTANTS In the Second Diet of Speier, April 25, 1529 certain Lutheran princes appeared with a formal written protest against those matters in which the Diet went contrary to the Christian faith as they understood it. This protest was signed by Elector John of Saxony, Margrave George of Brandenburg, Dukes Ernest and Francis of Braunschweig-Luneburg, Landgrave Philip of Hesse, Prince Wolfgang of Anhalt and the representatives of fourteen imperial cities. The protest was designed to protect them from the decisions of this Council. It was a defensive measure. The celebrated church historian, Philip Schaaf, makes the noteworthy statement "From this protest and appeal, the Lutherans were called Protestants. " (History of the Christian Church, Volume VII, p. 692). The same facts are stated in the Catholic Encyclopedia (Volume Xll, p. 495).
WHY BAPTISTS ARE NOT PROTESTANTS The Anabaptists, who appeared in Germany and German Switzerland shortly after the appearance of Luther and Zwingli, wished to trace back their conception of the Church to Apostolic times. They denied the validity of the baptism of children, saw in the Blessed Eucharist merely a memorial ceremony, and wished to restore the Kingdom of God according to their own heretical and mystical views. Though ATTACKED by the other Reformers (PROTESTANTS), they won supporters in many lands. (Source: DIFFERENT FORMS OF THE REFORMATION) http: //www. newadvent. org/cathen/10521 a. htm
WHY BAPTISTS ARE NOT PROTESTANTS An Act made by the Protestants against Anabaptists: "All Anabaptists and rebaptized persons, male or female, of mature age, shall be judged and brought from natural life to death, by fire, or sword or otherwise, as may benefit the persons, without preceding trial by spiritual judges. “

1. HISTORICALLY BAPTISTS ARE NOT PROTESTANTS - HISTORICAL EVIDENCE “In the eleventh and twelfth centuries the Petrobrusians rejected infant baptism and they and many subsequent medieval heretics (Henricians, Waldenses, Albigenses, and Bohemian Brethren) held views resembling in some respects the tenets of Anabaptists. ” (Source: ANABAPTISTS, Catholic Encyclopedia) http: //www. newadvent. org/cathen/10521 a. htm
1. HISTORICALLY BAPTISTS ARE NOT PROTESTANTS - HISTORICAL EVIDENCE For not so long ago I read the edict of the other prince who lamented the fate of the Anabaptists who, so we read, were pronounced heretics TWELVE HUNDRED YEARS AGO and deserving of capital punishment. He wanted them to be heard and not taken as condemned without a hearing. (1563 – 1200 = 363) that means BAPTISTS already existed in 363 AD (Source: The letters of Cardinal Stanislaus Hosius, Liber Epistolarum 150, titled “Alberto Bavariae Duci in about 1563 A. D. )
1. HISTORICALLY BAPTISTS ARE NOT PROTESTANTS - HISTORICAL EVIDENCE Edinburg Cyclopedia (Presbyterian): “It must have already occurred to our readers that the Baptists are the same sect of Christians that were formerly described as Ana-Baptists. Indeed this seems to have been their leading principle from the time of TERTULLIAN to the present time. ” (Tertullian was born just fifty years after the death of the Apostle John. )
