Whodunnit? SUPER SLEUTHS: FINAL WEEK

The Case Two nights ago, the local supermarket was broken into in the middle of the night. Strangely enough, the criminal did not steal any money… Instead, they made off with all the cheese inside the store! Strangely enough, the perpetrator left all the gouda. I guess they don’t like it? Anyway, the supermarket is looking for a team of detectives to look into this crime. We need you, the Super Sleuths, to use your new forensic skills to help bring the criminal to justice!

The Facts The supermarket was broken into between 2: 30 and 2: 45 AM. We know this because the security guard left for his break then and when he came back the crime had been committed and the criminal was nowhere to be seen. Several items were found around the scene that could have belonged to the criminal. The police have collected them and checked them from fingerprints, which you can investigate later. Three suspects have been identified, and police are almost certain one of them is the culprit.

The Suspects Each of the three suspects had some way they could have been around the supermarket at the time of the crime. We have taken fingerprints from each of the suspects for comparison later. In the next few slides we will look at who the suspects are and what their connection is to the supermarket and the crime.

Josh “Guard Dog” Howard Mr. Howard is the security guard at the supermarket. He claims to have been on his break during the time of the crime, but that would have been the perfect time to commit the crime! We suspect that Josh may have used his keys to get into the storage rooms of the supermarket to steal the cheese. Although we don’t know his motive, he is a likely candidate for the criminal.

Michael “Cheesy” Miller Michael lives across the street from the supermarket. He is a known cheese aficionado and frequently walks over to the supermarket to browse their cheese selection. There is a possibility Michael snuck into the supermarket when the security guard was on his break and stole the cheese.

Jon “Cooper” Spaulding This mysterious man was found walking around the supermarket around the time of the crime. When asked what he was doing, he told police that he was just out for his evening walk. We don’t know he could have gotten into the supermarket, but his actions are very suspicious and so he very well could be the criminal.

The Evidence Police found several items of interest around the scene of the crime. They also were able to recover fingerprints from each of the objects. We’ve prepared a handout with the crucial information about what was found at the scene.

Fingerprinting Conclusion Having seen the fingerprints found on objects at the scene of the crime, what can we figure out about who did the crime? What other kinds of evidence could we look for that could help us find who the culprit is?

The Letter A mysterious note was found dropped outside of the supermarket. We don’t know who wrote it or who it was for, but it might be useful to investigate. The police have made three copies of the letter. Although they weren’t able to get much information from it, maybe you all can find something hidden within it.

Conclusion Of course, the whole case has become clear! The criminal is none other than Michael “Cheesy” Miller, who is trying to force people to buy his special gouda cheese by stealing all the other cheese! And on top of that, Jon “Cooper” Spaulding was his accomplice; waiting for the security guard to leave before giving Michael the signal that it was safe to go into the supermarket. Good work team! Without you, this criminal may have gotten away with this incredible crime!
