2008: The Programme of Integrated Science, Studies and Business Centre (Valley) for the Development of Lithuanian Maritime Sector with a purpose to establish and develop Marine Valley in Klaipeda. Marine Valley aims to create a centre for the development of Lithuanian maritime sector: • to create a modern research infrastructure and consolidate the most qualified researchers; • to update and modernize the infrastructure of university-level marine and maritime studies; • to create conditions for cooperation between maritime business and research/academic institutions. Aims: • to ensure properation of the scientific infrastructure of Marine Valley and open access to the R&D services for internal and external users; • to facilitate science and business cooperation through high level scientific and technological research. R&D infrastructure consists of 5 laboratories: • Marine Chemistry, • Marine Ecosystems, • Marine Constructions Reliability, • Waterborne Transport Technologies, • Fleet and Field Research. http: //balticvalley. lt/en/ 02/11/2020 3
The Resource Efficient Maritime Capacity http: //www. remcap. eu/ Regions of Knowledge • The Resource Efficient Maritime Capacity 02/11/2020 REMCAP aims to develop the REMCAP clusters’ ability to promote innovation in maritime resource efficiency. REMCAP objectives: • to facilitate interaction and knowledge exchange between European maritime RRDCs and international ones, • increase the understanding of the clusters, develop and implement regional and joint action plans as well as • to identify and share best practice for organising and supporting RRDCs. 4
KLAIPEDA MARITIME CLUSTER ASSESSMENT ACTIONS • • • 02/11/2020 To establish the Cluster Organization, on the basis of existing Baltic Valley Association Development of private-public partnership strategy To ensure operational capacity of Open Access facilities Development of training programmes in order to cover the identified gaps Fostering the development of attractive business environment for development of emerging marine sectors – LNG and OWE 5
Emerging LNG Value Chain in the South Baltic Sea Region Klaipeda has become one of the few ports in the Baltic sea region the core of SECA area where LNG is accessible. Lithuania should look in to the business models involving LNG: • • • LNG as ship fuel distribution; LNG handling technologies; LNG for transport and port operations; LNG for industrial processes; LNG transportation.
