Who should use this presentation & read code Managers of staff & staff, and those responsible for visitors and contractors on STFC sites, who use ‘dangerous substances’ which may generate explosive atmospheres. Key features • The Code addresses the requirements of the Dangerous Substances & Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 • The Code establishes a framework to carry out simple assessments for: – small quantities of flammable substances; and – Controls for cylinders of flammable gas • For more complex processes contact SHE Group for advice from specialist consultants STFC SHE Group Corporate Services
Key points • For simple processes the risk assessment should consider : – – The hazardous properties of a substance; The way in which it is stored or used; and The possibility of explosive atmospheres occurring Potential ignition sources. • Also: – The control measures to remove or control risks; – Identification & classification of hazardous areas / zones; and – Procedures to deal with incidents involving dangerous substances • Then: STFC SHE Group Corporate Services – Ensure employees are properly trained and informed
