Who is Jesus Christ?

Qur’an calls Jesus “Isa ibn Maryam”, “Jesus, son of Mary” declaring him to be unique in that he has no biological father (Sura 19: 34) Qur’an refers to sins of the prophets, but never attributes sin to Jesus, but calls him “holy Son” (Quran 19: 19) Qur’an presents Jesus as the only prophet with the power to create life, open the eyes of the blind, cleanse the lepers, and raise the dead (Quran 3: 45 -51; 5: 110 -112; 19: 19) Qur’an attributes titles of “al Masih” (the Messiah), “Ruh Allah” (Soul/Spirit of God) and “Kalimat Allah” (Word of God) (Quran 4: 171)

Qur’an, at the same time states: “The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was ONLY a messenger of Allah…So believe in Allah and His messengers and say not ‘Three’…Allah is only One Allah. Far is it removed from his Transcendent Majesty that He should have a son” (Sura 4: 171) Qur’an also teaches that the Jews “did not kill nor crucify [Jesus]…but was made to appear…for of a surety they killed him not” (Sura 4: 156 -158)

Therefore, if you look at the life and death of Jesus as a human being and as a role model to teach us about our own life, there are certain implications. 'First of all, he was resurrected. That means life doesn't end with death.

There is something out there. We will be reborn. And he was resurrected into really good circumstances, right? He was sitting on the right hand of God, if my Christianity is correct. Now that's a pretty good circumstance to be reborn in. What earned him the right, this incredible rebirth? How did he earn that? '

'It's the way he treated his fellow human beings that was the measure of this man. It's because of that he was reborn into a good circumstance. 'Therefore, for us as Buddhists, we would look at Jesus as a great teacher and we could find wisdom there. We can find the wisdom to understand that how we live this life will determine the next life, whatever that may be. And that the key point is that as we walk through this life we should strive to emulate his behaviour, to be Jesus ourselves, not to worship his power. Therefore, we would regard Jesus as a teacher.
