Who am I and why am I here? • • • Dr Steve Tucker (from Aberdeen)…. . in your position 24 years ago! Senior lecturer in Pharmacology and Medical Sciences Coordinator of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Pharmacology Degrees Based in the School of Medicine, Medical Science and Nutrition University lead for retention • I am here to give you a whirlwind tour of the University and its component parts! • Aims: introduce you to your new home/family explain the structure of the University and its schools and sections give you confidence that you know where to go with any issues you encounter

What Does Your School Do? Provides Teaching and Assessment: delivered as part of the courses that make up your degree Key staff: - Course coordinators - Lecturers - Teaching assistants - Administrative staff (school office) - Others? Main courses will be run by YOUR own School…. . The University Structure: Professional Services: These sections are responsible for a number of elements of your experience as a student I want to highlight some of these that will help you identify specific sources of help or guidance

Parts of the University Structure Relevant To You: Registry (academic affairs): Central academic administration of ALL students Responsible for registration, examinations, graduations, managing student records, timetabling, tuition fees, degree regulations, quality assurance……… Registry officers are assigned to specific academic areas and are central to enable changes in your course choices, exemptions, waivers etc. There always duty registry officers available to speak to via the Info. Hub (see later) Some examples of registry-specific queries relate to: Changing courses, course exemptions or waivers, fees, registration, graduation…. . Always…no silly questions……if the question goes to the wrong person/dept it will be redirected
