Where does it come from? • These elastin proteins are not from human sources-they are typically harvested from either cows or birds • Because it comes from animals it makes better skin elasticity. • Collagen is also involved in the process of elastin.

• In the walls of our arteries, in our lungs, intestines, and skin, as well as in other elastic tissues, ligaments, bladder, and elastic cartilage • It may helps out in the large elastic blood vessel called the aorta • Also in the intervertebral disc above the sacroiliac • In vertebrates above the jawless fish

Organisms that use elastin • Elastin is a protein found in the skin and tissue of the body. • It helps to keep skin flexible and tight, so when its pulled it bounces back • • A lot of elastin in the skin means that the skin will return to its normal shape after a pull • It helps keep the skin smooth for example when , flexing a muscle or opening and closing the mouth to talk or eat. • It tends to deplete as age grows, it either becomes wrinkly or there's extra of the stretched out skin left.

• Composed of glycine, valine, alanine, and proline and what is called a “oil coil” , that is made up of 830 amino acids • “oil coil”- its what helps the skin stretch faster and smoother it also protects it. • Elastin is made by linking many soluble tropelastin protein molecules, in a reaction catalyzed by Lysol , oxidase, to make it insoluble and durable.

• Elastin is only produced in the body during childhood. • Restoring elastin is done by using creams containing elastin but most of the time it has no effect. • Elastin cannot be absorbed in the skin.

• I chose this protein because it sounded interesting and I wanted to learn more then what I already knew. It also seemed like it was going to be fun researching it
