What is Pre-apprenticeship? A program or set of strategies designed to prepare individuals to enter and succeed in an apprenticeship program. Under the Scaling Apprenticeship Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), pre-apprenticeship programs: Serve as on-ramps to apprenticeship opportunities Training is on a career pathway that leads to middle-to high-skilled occupations H-1 b grant participants must be 17 or older and out of high school Further guidance on quality-apprenticeship program can also be found at: https: //wdr. doleta. gov/directives/attach/TEN_13 -12. pdf 14
Benefits of Pre-apprenticeship Provides opportunities for individuals to prepare for an apprenticeship experience. Allows participants to experience work in the field to determine their interests and aptitudes for occupations and careers. Builds foundational experience and skills Enhances partner relationships, particularly with employers. Provides opportunities to transition into registered apprenticeships opportunities Promotes diversity by providing on-ramps for individuals who otherwise would remain disconnected from apprenticeships 15
