REFLECTION ON THE 2018 LPIP Strategy What worked Monitoring and support for • Monitoring and support was provided manly to the underperforming schools. • Underperforming subjects were monitored • and supported. Too many categories lead to confusion and poor support. • Differentiated support for learners was implemented only through learner camps for best performing learners. Support for progressed and repeating learners was insufficient. DBSTs and SBSTs functionality is questionable as there are no reports that suggest their intervention and related results. The system could not demonstrate convincingly on the support that was provided to progressed learners and the impact thereof. all categories of schools. Differentiated learner support What did not work • • Differentiated Teacher • support • Content Workshops for teachers were • conducted at the beginning of each term. 1+4 intervention for Mathematics Teachers were conducted for Grades 4 – 12. 48 Not all categories were monitored and supported. The time for workshops for teachers is not enough, thus pre and post tests are compromised.

REFLECTION ON THE 2018 LPIP (CONT. ) Strategy What worked Assessment • Underperforming schools were subjected to compulsory tests. • Feedback on the compulsory tests was not submitted analysed. • Workshops were conducted in the beginning of the first, second and third terms. • The time for the workshop is limited to 2 hours and thus the task is compromised. • Content Intervention Workshops for teachers were conducted at the beginning of the first, second and third terms. • Workshops on teacher induction and capacitating teachers to set quality tasks were compromised due to time constraints. • The 205 underperforming schools were subjected to Winter and Spring Vacation Classes. • The increase in the number of underperforming schools created constraints in recruiting teachers who qualified to teach in the vacation classes. Camps were conducted for best performing learners. • The competing priorities of hosting both camps and vacation classes compromised attendance by both learners and teachers. support Workshops for teachers. Camps, Winter and Spring Vacation Classes • What did not work Lesson broadcast • Limited lesson broadcast was done. • Lesson broadcast through the MSTA was not fully implemented due to capacity constraints by the service providers. E-Learning • There are various e-learning platforms. • There is no dedicated and focussed e-learning platform. 49
