Whats inside a cell How big are cells
What’s inside a cell? How big are cells? What are different types of cells? How was the cell discovered?
How are plant/animal cells alike and different? Plant Cells Both Cells Animal Cells
Cell Membrane • Protects the cell by controlling what enters and leaves the cell
Cytoplasm • Gelatin like substance that protects the cell like a cushion. • Site of all cell’s activity • Hold’s the other cell parts in place •
Nucleus • Directs all cell’s activities • Contains DNA (instructions)
Mitochondria • Produces energy for the cell by breaking down food
Ribosomes • Makes proteins based on the nucleus’ instructions
Endoplasmic Reticulum • Site where proteins are made by the ribosomes
Golgi Body • Sorts and packages the proteins made by the cell
Cell Wall • • Provides protection and shape to the cell
Why do plant cells have a cell wall and animal cells do not?
Vacuoles • Stores nutrients, water, • and wastes for the cell • Plants have 1 large vacuole, animal have many small vacuoles
Why do plant cells have one large vacuoles and animal cells have many small vacuoles?
Chloroplasts • Makes food for the cell by photosynthesis • Gives plants their green color
Why do plant cells have mitochondria when they have chloroplasts?
