It’s time to finalise our Log of Claims, which up for endorsement at our Branch AGM on 5 December 2012. It contains a number of measures which, if implemented, would greatly improve the working life and wellbeing of women at the University of Adelaide. Some of these measures will specifically affect female staff members. Others will apply to all staff, but will have a higher impact on women (eg. Domestic Violence). This presentation highlights some of these measures.

Claim 18 - Domestic Violence Calls for: • Special Leave provisions for staff dealing

Claim 18 - Domestic Violence Calls for: • Special Leave provisions for staff dealing with matters arising from Domestic Violence. • The development of Policy and Procedures to support staff experiencing Domestic Violence. • Protections so that people who experience Domestic Violence will not be disadvantaged at work as a result.

Claim 22 e) – Maternity Leave Calls for improved return to work options for

Claim 22 e) – Maternity Leave Calls for improved return to work options for staff coming back from Maternity Leave. These might include more help to get back into research practice, more flexibility about part-time fractions, and centrally funded Maternity Leave.

Claim 17 b) – Workplace Culture Calls for all managers and supervisors to satisfactorily complete training in how to prevent, and how to deal with, Bullying and Harassment.

Claim 26 b) – Policy & Procedures Calls for the reinstatement of an Equal Opportunity Representatives Program. This creates a pool of trained staff who sit on selection committees for Professional Staff positions to ensure the selection process is conducted fairly.

Claims 5 -10 – Professional Staff These call for a range of improvements for Professional Staff, including: • More access to Training & Development • Fairer Classification Procedures • Higher pay for staff who bring a higher work value to their position These changes will apply to all Professional Staff. However, many Professional Staff areas have very high proportions of women staff and these changes will make a huge difference for those areas.
