LIFE IS A PUZZLE All life is about relationships, but why do some of those relationships seem so much easier to create and maintain than others do? Every relationship begins with you, but who are you? Do you really understand why you think and behave the way you do? More importantly what motivates other people? Why don’t they seem to want the same things as you? Take this personality quiz to find out more about yourself and others.

COMPLETE THE COLOR CODE TEST – SECTION 1 Select the word or phrase that best describes what you were like most of the time in your earliest recollection. Answer how you were as a child; choose answers that are most often typical of your thoughts/actions. Only choose one answer per question. Circle or highlight your choice on the paper handout. When you get to the end of the first section, total up the number of letters for your answers. Write those totals in the blanks provided.

THE PEOPLE CODE The Color Code Personality Profile also known as The Color Code or The People Code, created by Dr. Taylor Hartman, divides personalities into four colors: Red(motivated by power), Blue ( motivated by intimacy), White (motivated by peace), and Yellow (motivated by fun). Although different groups of people have different demographics, the general breakdown suggests that Reds comprise 25% of the population; Blues 35%; Whites 20%; and Yellows 20%.

WHAT DOES YOUR COLOR MEAN? RED BLUE Motive – Power Reds are the power wielders. Power: the ability to move from point A to point B and get things done, is what motivates and drives these people. They bring great gifts of vision and leadership and generally are responsible, decisive, proactive and assertive Motive – Intimacy Blues are the do-gooders. Intimacy: connecting, creating quality relationships and having purpose, is what motivates and drives these people. They bring great gifts of quality and service and are generally loyal, sincere, and thoughtful.

WHAT DOES YOUR COLOR MEAN? White Yellow Motive - Peace White are the peacekeepers. Peace: the ability to stay calm and balanced even in the midst of conflict, is what motivates and drives these people. They bring gifts of clarity and tolerance and are generally kind, adaptable, and good-listeners. Motive-Fun Yellow are the fun lovers. Fun: the joy of living in the moment, is what motivates and drives these people. They bring great gifts of enthusiasm and optimism and are generally charismatic, spontaneous, and sociable.

DISCUSS Move into groups based on your colors. Have a reader read the description for your color from pages 29 -34 out loud. Assign two people the role of Word Finders. When you come across a word you don’t recognize, have a Word Finder look it up and share the definition. Take turns answering these questions: (Respond individually) How accurately does this personality profile describe you? In what ways does this describe you? In what ways does it not describe you?

GROUP DISCUSSION Now read through the quick guide to your color. Red 52 -53, Blue bottom of 72 -74, White 92 -93, Yellow 111 -113 How do members of your group interact with each of the other colors? Which color is most difficult for you to get along with? Why? What one thing do people need to know about your color in order to have a good relationship with you?

REPRESENT YOURSELF Using Photo. Shop, Paint, Power. Point or Word, create a visual representation of yourself. You will be sharing this presentation of yourself to the whole class. In addition to creating a visual representation of yourself, you will also be explaining who you are in terms of your color. Answer these questions: q Which color best represents you? Why (give specific examples)? q Which other colors represent you (give specific examples)? q Which color is most difficult for you to get along with?

PRESENTATION GRADING CRITERIA This will be a pre-test to determine your public speaking skills. You will be graded on the following criteria: q Has an engaging opening q Topic of presentation is clear, maintains focus throughout q Information/ideas are presented in a logical sequence with few lapses, transitions and connections are made, closing effectively summarizes presentation q Makes sure audience is ready, volume is generally consistent, maintains eye contact, minimizes reliance on notes q Visual aid is readable from all parts of the room, graphic is neat and appropriate q Speaks for a minimum of one minute, and a maximum of two
