What is VFA? v VFA is a national accountability system to measure how 2 -year colleges serve their students. The VFA metrics encompass the community college mission and the diversity of the students’ goals. Why are Iowa community colleges joining the VFA? v As a proactive step to establish accountability measures for CCs in order to prevent the federal government from defining for CCs what data elements best show accountability v To effectively inform the development of initiatives to meet the needs of our students How can we benefit from participation in VFA? v Application of common logic and metrics will facilitate benchmarking between Iowa community colleges and community colleges nationally v The resulting dataset can be used by individual colleges to identify areas of concern for additional root cause analysis and track their progress

DE-CC-VFA Data Exchange 1 2 5 3 4 1. DE creates retrospective VFA cohorts

DE-CC-VFA Data Exchange 1 2 5 3 4 1. DE creates retrospective VFA cohorts using MIS data, sends to CCs for validation and flagging of additional elements 2. CCs return flagged MIS data to DE for application of common VFA logic 3. DE enters data into VFA system 4. CCs approve VFA data and publish 5. DE provides CCs access to “raw” data for CC-specific queries The need for DE CC data exchange will decline as VFA-specific fields are appended to the MIS reports
