Chapter 4 Section 4 �Resocialization – the process of adopting new norms, values, attitudes, and behaviors. Extreme example: Army Real life example: when a child becomes a teenager, when a young adult begins a career, or when an elderly person moves to a nursing home.
Chapter 4 Section 4 �Anticipatory Socialization The process of preparing to accept new norms, values, attitudes, and behaviors. � Preteens observe the behavior of teenagers �Why do people date? �Reference group – group whose norms and values are used to guide behavior; group with whom you identify. Teenagers would be the reference group of preteens.
