A Bit of History • American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) was founded in 1884 – Focused on electric power and wired communications • The Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) was founded in 1912 – Focused on radio/wireless communication, electrical amplification, and then electronics • The two societies merged in 1963 to form the IEEE • Currently celebrating our 125 th Anniversary
