What is prayer? Prayer is communicating with God—while you talk, God listens and while God talks, you listen. Did you know that God always answers prayers when we have a relationship with Him?

Hannah Prays for a Son 1 Samuel 1: 2, 5, 6 -20

Elkanah There was a man named Elkanah who had two wives. One wife was named Hannah and the other was named Penninah. Elkanah loved Hannah more than Penninah could have children, but Hannah couldn’t. Hannah was really upset that she couldn’t have children. Hannah Penninah

Penninah teased Hannah because she couldn't have children. Penninah would make Hannah feel so bad. Hannah cried and cried. She cried so much that she wouldn't eat.

Elkanah always assured her that he loved her more than Penninah. Hannah knew Elkanah loved her, but it still didn't make her happy because she still wanted a son.

One day Hannah went to the church. She knew God would answer her prayer if she prayed to Him. There was a priest named Eli there when she arrived.

Hannah prayed and prayed. She even cried when she prayed. In her prayer she told God that she would dedicate her son back to Him. She promised that He would be a Nazarite. (A Nazarite was a person dedicated to do God's work)

Eli watched Hannah as she prayed. He saw her lips moving, but he didn't hear her. He thought she was drunk. He even asked her to stop drinking before she prayed.

Hannah told Eli that she was not drunk. She explained to him that she was very troubled and was praying to God to help her in her situation. Even though her lips were moving, and nothing was coming out, she was praying to God with all of her heart.

After Hannah explained herself to Eli, he told her to go in peace and assured her that God would answer her prayer. After she left the temple, she felt so much better. She wasn't sad any more.

After a year, God answered Hannah's prayer. She had a boy. She was so happy. She said, "I asked God for a son and he gave me a son. " She named her son Samuel.

Prayer is communicating with God—while you talk, God listens and while God talks, you listen. In today’s story, Hannah prayed for a son. God answered Hannah’s prayer for a son. Hannah had a good relationship with God. Just like God answered Hannah’s prayer, He will answer your prayers too.
