What is Matter? Solid, Liquid, and Gas
What is Matter? Matter is anything that takes up space. Look around your classroom and tell you partner five different things that take up space.
3 states of matter There are 3 states, or kinds, of matter. 1. Solid 2. Liquid 3. Gas
Solids Solid is matter that keeps its same shape and size.
Where are Solids? Click on the matter that is a solid. If you hear a clapping sound you are correct!
Liquids Liquid is matter that takes the shape of its container. * Remember the container is a solid! If you pour milk from a carton into a glass it will have a new shape!
Where are Liquids? Click on the matter that are liquids. If you hear a clapping sound you are correct!
Gases have no real shape. Gas takes the shape of its container. The air all around us is a gas.
Where are Gases? Click on the matter that is a gas. If you hear a clapping sound you are correct! HINT: Think about what is inside the containers.
More than one States of Matter? Did you know that some things can have more than one states of matter? Tell your partner what you notice about the pictures below.
Changes in Matter! Did you know that matter can change states? Let’s talk about how some matter can change states.
Water! Water can change into all three states of matter Ice Cubes (solid) to a Water (liquid) to Steam (gas)
Matter on the Internet Explore some this fun Matter Site. You can change the state of objects by heating and melting them Change the State: http: //www. fossweb. com/modules. K-2/Solidsand. Liquids/
