Definition History is everything that has happened since the beginning of time. It is our knowledge of the past. Involves the study of its records or sources of information. However, our knowledge of the past can never be complete as records do not exist for everything.
Why Study History? History helps us define who we are, where we live, and who our family and friends are. History has influenced: Place names: towns, cities, streets, and schools Personal names: reflect family tradition; surnames can tell us about our ancestors Language: the alphabet we use and the way we spell and pronounce words Values and beliefs: our beliefs about government and about people from other parts of the world Institutions: parliaments, governments and monarchies all have roots in history
