What is expected of me…. Motivation and a sense of initiative Malmaison will be looking for an intern who is keen every shift to do their job to the best they can. They will like to see a person who consistently puts in effort and has motivation with every aspect of their work. Motivation in the hospitality environment consists of willing to put hard work in with all their task and duties and showing a sense of enthusiasm. Malmaison will look to see if someone has a sense of initiative and are willing to learn new skills.

Punctuality and time management Being on time or even coming in early before starting

Punctuality and time management Being on time or even coming in early before starting the shift always sets a good impression with employers or managers from the company. As Malmaison is a fast moving company e. g. in the restaurant, they would like their staff to be on time and ready to start their shift abruptly. Being on time or early means that any changes or news can be communicated for staff and they are able to check what they have planned for the shift which lies ahead.

Reliable and trust worthy Malmaison will expect me to be reliable to them during

Reliable and trust worthy Malmaison will expect me to be reliable to them during my internship. They will expect me to turn up for my shifts, stay until it is over and help out at any chance I can. I have to be trust worthy with any information I am provided with, trusted to be allowed to be left alone to complete a task up to a high standard and Malmaison should rely and trust myself to look after the customers by giving them high quality service.

Professional code of work Due to the high standard hotel and restaurant Malmaison is, it is inevitable I must be professional at all times whilst on shift. I must speak appropriately to the customers and speak how I would like to be spoken to in a restaurant. Their opinions come first and I have to respect this and speak to them in a professional manner. I also must be aware how I speak with other colleagues and that I do not talk about anything inappropriate and is related to work. I must dress appropriately by representing the business by being tidy and ensuring my work uniform is clean and up to a high standard.

Confidence within the workplace Malmaison will be looking for me to have confidence during

Confidence within the workplace Malmaison will be looking for me to have confidence during my shifts. This could be when I am serving customers. I must speak with a clear voice so they can understand what I am saying and there is no miscommunication or mistakes being made. I must be confident in the dishes I am speaking to the customer about or recommending a wine for them, if I do not know what I am talking about it could lead to errors in the flow of the shift. If I am unsure on what something is I should not hesitate to ask another employee or the manager as if mistakes are made it could be noticed by the customer.

Communication Malmaison is all about providing high quality service and to do this there

Communication Malmaison is all about providing high quality service and to do this there needs to be communication. I must be listening carefully to customers wants and demands and in case if they have any requests when taking food/drink orders. Behind the scenes there must be communication between all members of staff so that errors can be avoided i. e. asking if everything is ok with their meal more than 1 time.

Teamwork Malmaison must work together as a team to achieve its goals. The staff

Teamwork Malmaison must work together as a team to achieve its goals. The staff must work together on shift and communicate with each other and see what needs done to help each other out. It makes everybody's job much easier and smoother if there is teamwork and nobody who is a staff member takes charge and everyone is involved with the team. Customers also enjoy to see and spot teamwork. It must also happen after shift with clean up and everyone must take their turns in doing tidying up and everyone must contribute.

Attentive for customers needs and observant Malmaison will always require staff to be attentive

Attentive for customers needs and observant Malmaison will always require staff to be attentive of their customers. I must ensure they have appropriate cutlery for their meal, ensure they have enough drinks and make sure to clear plates after they have finished their meal. Also checking on the progress of the meal is important for the customer as they will feel a sense of customer care and also feedback for Malmaison and if there is anything they could improve on. I must take into consideration that I am their waitress and must not act too friendly or comfortable with them and be attentive at all times.

A friendly member of staff and helpful Overall, Malmaison will be looking for staff

A friendly member of staff and helpful Overall, Malmaison will be looking for staff who are pleasant to everyone in the organisation ranging from customers to other members of staff. Being friendly will set a positive and happy vibe in the work place and will make everyone feel welcome and will be happy coming to work. Being helpful for customers is important, if it’s as little as directing someone to the toilet, to helping them with their choice of meal. A positive vibe in the workplace is essentially what makes and sets the organisational culture.

My expectations… While carrying out my internship, I do have expectations from Malmaison as

My expectations… While carrying out my internship, I do have expectations from Malmaison as they do from me. I expect to come out with a new set of skills which can be transferable into any type of job in the future. I hope to be able to put these new skills that I learn onto my CV and I can hopefully be more employable and attractive for future employers. I am expecting to learn how to deal with customer queries, whether it being a compliant or if they are interested in finding something out. I hope to build on my confidence levels where I will be in an organisational culture where it is dynamic, busy and constantly on the go. Being in this type of environment for 30 hours over a course of a week will test my confidence skills so I hope I can build on them in a busy environment. I will also see what goes on behind the scenes in a successful business like Malmaison and I will see what hard work is put in everyday to satisfy customer needs. I also expect to be treated like the other employees who already work there and are not doing an internship. I expect to be treated as part of the Malmaison family and as part of the team, as I am willing to be part of it and include myself in as much as I can.
