Review of some of the definitions: n ADA n n n An individual with a disability is defined as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities a person who has a history or record of such impairment, or a person who is perceived by others as having such impairment. n ICF n n Disability is an umbrella term for impairments, activity limitations or participation restrictions. Environmental and personal factors influence all aspects of health, functioning and disability. n Surgeon General July 26, 2005 n “… disabilities are characteristics of the body, mind, or senses that, to a greater or lesser extent, affect a person’s ability to 35 engage independently in some or all aspects of day-to-day life. ”
