What is an ISSUE? An Issue is something that affects a large group of people. It usually involves conflicting opinions. • School Issue: Uniform • Ontario Issue: Education, Health Care • Canadian Issue: Taxes • Global Issue: Global Warming

What is a RIGHT? A RIGHT: • is something you can expect for others For example: • You have the right to free speech and others have to allow you to express yourself.

What is a RESPONSIBILITY? A RESPONSIBILITY: • is something others can expect from you. For example: • Others expect you to exercise your right to free speech wisely and not offend others.

What guarantee do citizens have that their rights will be protected? • All rights are outlined in the “Charter of Rights and Freedoms. ” • The Charter is part of Canada’s Constitution (The Supreme Law of the Land of Canada) • It is very difficult to make changes to the constitution; therefore citizen’s rights are securely protected.
