What Is Arts Alive SDSU? • Arts Alive SDSU provides opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to engage in transformational arts interactions as part of an arts-rich, robust educational community on the campus of San Diego State University.

SDSU Strategic Plan Initiative • Enhancing Creative Arts on Campus • Goal - Support faculty efforts to build art events into university curriculum framework. (i. e. Integrate plays, art, and/or music into course content across disciplines)

Arts Alive SDSU Goals • To broaden awareness of arts events and opportunities at SDSU • To increase attendance at SDSU arts events • To expand academically informed art-making opportunities at SDSU • To integrate arts events and arts practices into core curriculum content at SDSU

Signature Events • The highest quality arts events that SDSU has to offer. These events are academicallyinformed and fully produced to showcase SDSU’s broad range of artistic talent. Don Powell Theatre Smith Recital Hall

Pop-Up Events • Designed to meet the goals of Arts Alive SDSU by promoting and highlighting Signature Events. • Pop-Ups bring the arts outside of traditional venues to the center of student activity - whether they are at the library, the student union, or the farmer’s market • These events are designed to develop audience awareness and attendance at Signature events – – Art at the Market Art under the Dome Arts at the Union Art Benches

Assessment Learning Outcomes 1. As a result of attending Arts Alive SDSU Pop-up events, students will be able to identify 2 or more additional arts events on campus. 2. As a result of participating in Arts Alive SDSU events on campus, students will report feeling more connected to the SDSU campus community. 3. Attendance at Signature Events during this Spring semester will exceed attendance of prior Spring semester. 4. Students from non-art majors will report that they are more likely to participate in the arts due to Arts Alive SDSU'S initiatives.

Signature Event Poll 1. Did you attend a Pop-Up event on campus? 2. On a scale of 1 to 5, how did that Pop-Up experience influence your attendance today? Attendance numbers will be given to us for each event. This data will be compared with attendance from last year’s events.

Limitations • No captive audience or “program participants” at Pop-Up events. (polling passers-by) • Arts Alive Goals do not translate to clear Learning objectives & Learning outcomes (awareness & connectedness vs. cognitive learning) • How do we measure and assess the impact of the arts on the educational experience of the over 30, 000 students attending SDSU in a given year?

Lessons Learned • Collaboration between Academic Affairs and Student Affairs can be challenging – Presents a great opportunity to establish an ongoing collaboration
