WHAT IS AN INFORMED CITIZEN? Being an informed citizen is important in caring for others, respecting the laws, protecting the environment and improving the community. Informed Citizenship can be defined as membership of a particular community or country and building good relationships with people within the community.

HOW AM I AN INFORMED CITIZEN? I become engaged. The community in which you

HOW AM I AN INFORMED CITIZEN? I become engaged. The community in which you live offers many chances for you to become involved in something. Whether it be sporting teams, public meetings, special interest groups, or local school activities. I became involved with cheerleading which allowed me to become more active and engaged. By joining the cheer team, more interaction occurred which caused more relationships to develop.

 I keep up with social media. By keeping up with different social media

I keep up with social media. By keeping up with different social media apps such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, I am able to keep up with different current events that are going on all over the world. Social media is also great for gaining insight on different events going on all over the word because there are so many diverse opinions that you can learn from. Social media opens your mind allows you to take other people’s point of view into perspective.

I have conversations with my peers. Talking with my peers allows me to gain insight on others opinions. It also allows me to learn from them and gain knowledge about subjects I may not have known much about. Conversations and relationships with your peers allows you to grow as a person and develop your character.

I ask questions in class. Classrooms have a lot of information about many different topics and when I want to learn more about a certain topic I ask questions. For example, asking questions in a social studies class such as US History allows you to stay up to date with current events.

 I registered to vote. Voting allows you to vote for important things whether

I registered to vote. Voting allows you to vote for important things whether it be voting for our nation or our local community. Voting allows you to have a voice on what goes on in current news.

I have a job. I work as a group counselor at an after school program where I work with kids. After high school, I would like to pursue a degree in education so through my job, it has allowed me to learn more about kids. Having a job is important in being an informed citizen because they allow you to grow and gain knowledge about different areas in your workforce.
