Gathering the Huckleberries Strap on your Baskets for grad school, career, family, life’s challenges

The Huckleberries gathered from my formal education are of the “humanities species” (my discipline), which framed from my professional and personal experiences as an Ethnographer. With it, I’d journey into the world of Indigenous peoples, such as the Crow Indians of Montana and the Coeur d’Alene and Nez Perce Indians of Idaho. How would you define the Humanities? Who are the Indigenous Peoples?
The Humanities: Seeks to address the “big questions, ” doing so through an integration of multi-perspectives, with an application of an interpretative methodology that requires self-reflection, distinct from empirical scientific and social science methods. So what Huckleberries were shared from the Indigenous, that I placed in my basket?
Huckleberries Gained Baakáate “my child. ” “Be Attentive, ” an active listener, active participator, in what Others can offer you and, equally important, in One’s Self (reflection). Be willing to acknowledge and seek out your Mentors and guides. Baaéechichiwaau “re-tell one’s story. ” With courage, be able to Articulate and Speak out effectively to others. Re-telling one’s own story, and the stories of others. Díakaashik “sincerity. ” Cultivate Empathy, to travel the many spokes. Be skilled in Multi-perspectives (not just anchored to a single spoke). Know your Own Spoke, own discipline, with competency, but be able to travel the other spokes, other perspectives (divergent thinking). Tamálwit "the law, " the big picture. Cultivate ability to Integrate, to synthesis multi-perspectives together and work Collaboratively with others. By extension, be able to address the Bigger Picture, see the Entire Wheel with its many Spokes, and its Hub (convergent thinking). Té∙k’e, “to give and share with others, ” all in order to help others. Apply your Huckleberries to problem solving, in a desire to serve others.
