Summer Love By: Hannah C. • The sun like a diamond on his russet

Summer Love By: Hannah C. • The sun like a diamond on his russet skin The smell of his cologne carried in the breeze. The dark mystery in his eyes so thin, Thanking god I came to the Florida Keys. His name is unknown to me; I have no clue. It’s importance is little, I do not care. His smile like porcelain as birds above flew. But all I could see was his bronze shaggy hair. His eyes glittered as he looked into the sun that set atop of a painted sea. There I was thinking he may be the one, even though together we cannot be. For it does no matter, we are here now. We’ll be together someday, someway, somehow.

Shall I compare thee to a piece of toast? By: thestoryofme 163 • Shall I compare thee to a piece of toast? Thou art more scrumptious and delectable: Unevenly the elements may glow’st, And sticking levers are detestable: Sometimes too long the slice of bread doth roast, And seldom do the crumbs not make a mess; And often it is much too sweet for most, If one should drizzle honey in excess; But thy eternal warmth shall never cool, Nor shall thee lose thy lovely golden hue; And I’ll rejoice that fate hath not been cruel, Each morning on beholding thee anew; On this perception all the world agrees, That no delicious bread’s divine as thee.

Sonnet XVII By: Pablo Neruda Translated By: Stephen Tapscott • I do not love

Sonnet XVII By: Pablo Neruda Translated By: Stephen Tapscott • I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz, or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off. I love you as certain dark things are to be loved, in secret, between the shadow and the soul. I love you as the plant that never blooms but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers; thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance, risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body. I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride; so I love you because I know no other way than this: where I does not exist, nor you, • so close that your hand on my chest is my hand, so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.
