The Real Number System Just like many things in life numbers can be classified into groups. The numbers we use in middle school math are all part of the Real Number System.

What is the Real Number System? O The Real Number System is the SET O There are 5 subsets of the Real Number System. O Irrational O Rational O Integers O Whole O Natural

So, The Real Number Set… O Includes all of the Numbers we see in 8 th grade math.

Then the numbers are organized into the 5 subsets!

NATURAL NUMBERS 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, … O“Counting numbers” ONumbers that are greater than zero.

WHOLE NUMBERS 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, … ONatural Numbers AND Zero

INTEGERS …, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, … O Whole Numbers and their opposites. O A. K. A. Positive and Negative Numbers.

RATIONAL NUMBERS OIntegers OFractions ODecimals, they either terminate (end) or repeat.

IRRATIONAL NUMBERS ONumbers that have non- ending and non-repeating decimals. OFYI: When taking the square root of any number that is not a perfect square the answer will be irrational.
