What is a 3 D shape? u. A 3 D shape has a length, width and height. A shape that has thickness.
u Prism - a 3 -dimensional shape with 2 faces that are congruent and parallel polygons. All other faces are rectangles. The name of the prism is based on the polygon faces. u Pyramid Prism - a 3 -dimensional shape with one face that is a polygon which is called the base. All other faces are triangles that meet at a vertex (point) Pyramid
3 -Dimensional Vocabulary u Face – a side of a 3 -dimensional figure u Edge – where 2 faces meet u Vertex – where 2 edges meet
u Find the cube u How many faces does it have? u How many edges? u How many vertices? u What are examples of cubes in our real world?
u Find a rectangular prism. u How many faces does it have? u How many edges? u How many vertices? u What are examples of rectangular prisms in our real world?
Can a cube also be a rectangular prism? Remember squares are also rectangles.
