Observation of Teaching, Learning and Assessment 4. Learning – in this section of the report the observer to record the learners’ learning and NOT what the tutor is teaching (Hampshire Futures: OTLA Report and Guidance notes)

OFSTED: Inspecting the quality of teaching, learning and assessment 82. Inspection of this key judgement is based on the quality of teaching, learning and assessment and the impact it has on learners’ outcomes and personal development. 83. Ofsted has no preferred teaching style. Inspectors judge the quality of teaching by its impact on learning. (OFSTED: Further Education and Skills Inspection Handbook April 2017)

What to consider when planning for learning: • Do learners understand what they are learning and why? • Are all learning needs being met (e. g. SEN)? • Has the lesson been differentiated for level or ability? • Is there clear integration of English and Math? • Is there a variety of teaching and learning strategies used throughout? • Does the pace of the lesson meet all needs?

• Are the resources used current, sufficient, reliable, accessible and reflect the construct of the group and the wider community? • Has there been a variety of assessment methods used throughout the lesson? • Are the learners safe (health and safety)? • Is there evidence, where appropriate, of Prevent / British values integration within the lesson? • Has the tutor provided feedback that stretches and challenges learners?
