LET’S ANALYZE HOW YOU CURRENTLY USE YOUR STUDY TIME… Carefully consider: o o o When and where you study How often you study How much time you waste The quality of your study time The “excuses” you use for not studying

o o o o Taking advantage of your learning style Looking for relationships and connections in the material Being consistent in your efforts Setting attainable goals Concentrating on the main focus of the material Knowing your distractions and intentionally removing them Doing your homework! TEST PREP…
Preparation Before the Test …In School Pay attention for important information o Materials (Handouts, Models, Videos, etc. ) o Repetition of Main Ideas o Format of Exam o Required supplies or equipment (calculator, pencil, ruler etc. )
In Class… o Intend to learn o Listen carefully o Take thorough and accurate notes (and review them daily) o Ask questions o Try to organize and condense important ideas
Talk with classmates or arrange to study in a group Arrange to meet with the teacher o Don’t wait until the day before the test o Be willing to stay after school (Remember your priorities? ) o Take initiative to come to extra help to practice and review
Preparation Before the Test …At Home Interact with your notes and index cards. Complete practice questions Review all materials related to the class o Notes, handouts, text book, outlines, assignments, etc. Pay particular attention to o Lists o Charts, Tables, or Graphs that organize Information o Anything stressed or given extra importance in class
Rewrite key terms, definitions, equations, comparative lists, summaries, etc. Divide your material into what you know well, what you need to review, and what is totally unfamiliar. o Color-code or label your notes accordingly o Spend the most time on what is unfamiliar
CHEM IS TRY!!!!!! Have a positive attitude that you have prepared to the best of your ability and be satisfied with that.
TEST ANXIETY STRATEGIES Stop negative thoughts… Think positive! Admit anxiety Improve the situation
You are in control. Use some or all of the following strategies to be proactive. o Visualize – See success in your mind o Relax – Think about something or someplace you enjoy o Focus – Try to remember the helpful tools and study methods you have learned o Breathe – Take several controlled, deep breaths o Notice – Be aware of how your body reacts to anxiety and make a conscious effort to relax your muscles
