There are 5 major components of health 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Physical health Social health Mental health Emotional health Spiritual health
Physical Health Aspects of health related directly to the body. Weight, strength, how your body functions Absence of disease is a part of physical health Improving physical fitness improves physical health
Social Health Involves aspects interacting with people in your environment Good relationships (social networks) with others are essential for your social health. (friends, family) They help you determine your physical and emotional health. In times of crisis they support you Social networks give you a sense of belonging
Mental health The state of mind that enables you to cope with the emotional demands of everyday life Sense of self worth Ability to cope with difficult situations Stress is seen as a part of life
Emotional Health The ability to express feelings in appropriate ways Ability to overcome difficulties Enjoy life See difficulties as challenges
Spiritual Health Your relationship with others and the role of spiritual direction in your life. Can be a number of things Religion Harmony in life Peace with self and others.
Health and Wellness Health The state of wellbeing that comes from realizing your potential in each of the 5 aspects of health. Wellness Optimal health A state of wellness can be viewed by looking at your overall health as a range of possibilities.
Health-Illness Continuum Your overall health can be plotted on a healthillness continuum.
