What do you notice about the location of Rome? • It is centrally located in the Mediterranean region • The Alps and the Mediterranean Sea provide protection

Political • Alps to the north provided protection from invasion • Mediterranean Sea and Rome’s inland location on the Tiber River protected Rome from invasion Economic • Central location in Mediterranean made it an important commercial center. • What do I mean by commercial? • Land surrounding the Tiber River was fertile for farming • Proximity to Greek colonies led to knowledge of growing grapes and olives Social • Greek, Etruscan and Latin influences
Roman Mythology • According to legend, Rome was founded by Romulus and Remus (twin brothers)
