What Are the Steps of the Scientific Method? • State the Problem: this is done following a series of observations • Gather Information: by taking measurements, etc.
What Are the Steps of the Scientific Method? • Form a Hypothesis: make an educated guess based on your information
• Test the Hypothesis: by designing an experiment including an independent variable (the part you physically change), a dependent variable (the part that changes as a result of what you did) and the control (the part that remains unchanged).
• State the Conclusion: based on the results of your experiment, state whether or not your results agree with your hypothesis
If your hypothesis and conclusion agree, then you must repeat the experiment exactly as you just did in order to verify your results…if they do not agree, you must change ONE thing and redo the experiment, changing your hypothesis if necessary!
