Components of a Good Graph 1. Choose the best type of graph to tell

Components of a Good Graph 1. Choose the best type of graph to tell the story of the data 2. Draw the axes or axis 3. Decide the best intervals and label your axes with consistient increments. 4. Plot the points 5. Label the axes (always include the units!) 6. Add a key if needed. 7. Give your graph a descriptive title. T-A-L-K-I-T-U-P (use this acronym to check your completed graph)

Group work roles • Facilitator- Responsible to ensure everyone’s participation and help keep everyone on task. (Participate) • Compliance specialist- Make sure that the group work is fulfilling all of the requirements (Pause). • Skeptic- Listen carefully to peoples ideas and ask clarifying questions (Probe) • Clarifier Maintain positive group attitude and push the group to develop ideas further (Positive, Paraphrase)

What kind of graph? • Spend 5 minutes to quietly reading through the 4 data sets. • On your handout write down which type of graph you think would best fit the data. • Use talking sticks protocol to share which type of graph would be best for each set of data and why- When finished place your red cup at the edge of the table and I will assign you the graph your group will construct • Create a graph for your assigned data set on your poster paper. (You may want to use you white boards for a rough draft) • Be sure to use all of the components of a good graph (TALK -IT-UP)
