WGISS PROJECTS APPLICATIONS SUBGROUP REPORT TO PLENARY WGISS
WGISS PROJECTS & APPLICATIONS SUBGROUP REPORT TO PLENARY WGISS 26 Karen Moe/NASA 25 Sep 2008 Boulder, CO, USA WGISS 26 Boulder, CO, USA Sep. 25, 2008 1
Current Structure WGISS • Project & Applications Subgroup – Chair: Karen Moe/NASA – Vice Chair: Satoko Miura/JAXA • Interest Groups (IG) and Projects – – WTF-CEOP Project - Satoko Miura (closing) Global Datasets IG - Lorant Czaran Land Surface Imaging Constellation IG- Lyn Oleson LSI Constellation Portal Project - Lyn Oleson • New – Atmospheric Composition Constellation IG – Precipitation Constellation Liaison WGISS 26 Boulder, CO, USA Sep. 25, 2008 2
WGISS WTF-CEOP • WTF-CEOP project completed successfully – Software from NASA prototype available as open source – Potential for outcomes of WTF-CEOP to contribute to DA-0701 as WGISS supporting role • 2 lessons learned documents input to GEOSS AIP (AR-07 -02) • 4 lessons learned documents to be posted on WGISS web site – JAXA prototype lessons learned – Data provenance lessons learned (NASA prototype) – 2 documents on OGC WCS & CS/W standards maturity and interoperability issues (NASA prototype) WGISS 26 Boulder, CO, USA Sep. 25, 2008 3
WGISS Global Datasets Interest Group • Coordinate WGISS contributions to core global datasets – Request WGISS participation and create email distribution list • Work with GEO task leads to refine DEM interoperability requirements and scope of WGISS contribution • Present status of DEM Interoperability requirements and recommend actions at WGISS 27 WGISS 26 Boulder, CO, USA Sep. 25, 2008 4
WGISS Atmos Composition Constellation • Recommend ACC Interest Group to be formed – Suggest WGISS Lead be Stefan Falke • Suggested WGISS ACC IG activities – Participate in ACC Workshop sponsored by SEO at GISS in Oct 15 -17, 2008 (CAT 1, CL-06 -02_13) – Collaborate with ACC members to • Draft recommendations for a ‘value-added’ ACC portal • Evaluate extension of AIP Air Quality prototype for a Smoke Monitoring Sensor Web proposal (CAT 2 WGISS supporting role to HE-06 -03_2) • Present status at WGISS 27 WGISS 26 Boulder, CO, USA Sep. 25, 2008 5
WGISS Precipitation Constellation • WGISS and PC want to better understand the scope of each group’s respective contributions to CEOS and GEOSS • Recommend WGISS collaboration with PC’s GPM Data Working Group (GDa. WG) • Suggest action item for WGISS to work with Erich Stocker/NASA and Satoko Miura/JAXA to identify liaison candidates and report at WGISS 27 • PC contributions of data to sensor webs under consideration WGISS 26 Boulder, CO, USA Sep. 25, 2008 6
WGISS Lessons Learned WGISS 25 -6 Recommendations on capturing lessons learned/best practices: • When a project is presented at WGISS, always include a WGISS Lessons Learned assessment – – Project, POC, date, [project/SIG] Keywords Lessons learned list Links to relevant files or web sites • WGISS web site update would include a page for searching on WGISS Lessons Learned. • Purpose is to complement the WGISS Handbook • Target audience? – WGISS members – CEOS, GEOSS WGISS 26 Boulder, CO, USA Sep. 25, 2008 7
WGISS Project & Applications • New project proposals should provide consideration for sustaining successful prototypes beyond demonstration – Clarify the purpose and expected outcome (lessons learned only, or potential GEOSS component) – If a sustainable component, what resources are needed • Recommend WGISS project documents reflect this need – Project proposal template – Project closeout template WGISS 26 Boulder, CO, USA Sep. 25, 2008 8
