We’re all skeptics now. We’re all Doubting Thomas. Can I confess my doubts?
People simply aren’t impartial and unbiased. We have each and all been shaped by our times, our actions, love and blessing or the lack of it, and by our sin.
Herod the Great attempted to kill infant Jesus, slaughtering many baby boys in Judea. Herod Antipas, had John the Baptizer beheaded. King Agrippa I beheaded the apostle James and arrested Peter in an attempt to kill him. Agrippa II is in an incestuous relationship with his sister.
Skepticism and doubt about God are the result of humanity’s fall into sin.
“I too was convinced that I ought to do all that was possible to oppose the name of Jesus of Nazareth. ”
We’re all skeptics. We’re Doubting Thomas We’re all experts now. So know this: Before the Bible is good news it is a challenge.
The goal of faith isn’t proof, but trust and assurance. Because belief in God is about a person, not an argument.
I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads. ’ 15 “Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord? ’ “ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting, ’ the Lord replied.
22 But God has helped me to this very day. . .
18. . . to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God. . . ’
The goal of faith is not to create a set of immutable, rationalized, precisely defined and defendable beliefs to preserve forever. It is to recover a relationship with God in which we experience Christ’s presence to save and redeem.
We meet him there at the cross of our shame and our lost hopes and our deep desire to live despite all that has gone wrong in our hands. We meet him in his resurrection glory and power when we respond to his way, his authority, and trust his word.
It is painful for people who are sinful to recognize their sin and confess it, and it is offensive to people who wish to be their own lords to recognize Jesus as Lord. - C Stephen Evans

25 “I am not insane, most excellent Festus, ” Paul replied. “What I am saying is true and reasonable. 26 The king is familiar with these things, and I can speak freely to him. I am convinced that none of this has escaped his notice, because it was not done in a corner.
