Are You a Statistic? • The national standard for determining obesity, however, is the calculation of your Body Mass Index, or BMI. • Individuals with a BMI of over 30 are considered to be “obese” • BMI of 30 or more puts you in a very high risk class for stroke, heart attack, cancer, and diabetes. • In other words, the CHAINS are binding you!

How to Measure BMI • Divide your weight by your height in inches times your height in inches, then multiply the result by the number 703. • For instance if you are 5 feet in height (12 X 5=60 inches) and you weigh 160 pounds, your BMI is calculated by dividing 160 (your weight) by 3600 (60 inches times 60 inches). This number (. 0444444) is then multiplied by 703 and the BMI index is thus calculated at 31. 24, an obese number.
