PURPOSE The Wellbeing Self-assessment Tool has been developed to assist schools in understanding wellbeing by engaging with the Wellbeing Framework for Schools and the key concepts that underpin the development of healthy, happy, successful and productive individuals. The self-assessment tool includes a number of processes that schools may engage with to: • Identify and assess their current wellbeing approaches or programs • Identify evidence to support their assessment • Identify areas for future growth. © NSW Department of Education August 2017
SCHOOL EXCELLENCE FRAMEWORK Wellbeing is one of six learning elements of the School Excellence Framework Excellence in wellbeing In schools that excel, there is a strategic and planned approach to develop whole school wellbeing processes that support the wellbeing of all students so they can connect, succeed, thrive and learn. © NSW Department of Education

1. ENGAGE WITH THE WELLBEING FRAMEWORK School communities engage with the Wellbeing Framework for Schools through professional learning to develop an understanding of the concept of wellbeing and its close links with learning. As a result school communities should have a shared understanding of: • • • The role schools can have in positively influencing wellbeing The continuum of wellbeing support for ALL, SOME and FEW students The key themes, domains, and elements of the wellbeing framework The strong links between school excellence and wellbeing The need to have a planned approach to wellbeing that incorporates the elements of the wellbeing framework. © NSW Department of Education August 2017

ACTIVITY: USING THE SCHOOL WELLBEING MAPPING SCAFFOLD Use the School Wellbeing Mapping Scaffold to: • Identify a current wellbeing approach or program • Map the approach/program against the five domains of wellbeing. • Identify the sustained learning, teaching and leadership practices of this approach/program • Determine if the approach/program meets the needs of all students, some students and/or a few. © NSW Department of Education August 2017

ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE IN WELLBEING The school has a comprehensive and integrated strategy in place to support the cognitive, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual wellbeing of students in a context of quality teaching and learning. Students, teachers and staff, and members of the wider school community have a shared understanding of the behaviours, attitudes and expectations that enhance wellbeing and lead to improved student outcomes.
